This June, Avie Records releases the premiere recording of Anna Clyne’s new cello concerto, DANCE, coupled with Edward Elgar’s iconic masterpiece for cello and orchestra. Written exactly a century apart, the concerti are masterfully interpreted by soloist Inbal Segev, conductor Marin Alsop, and the London Philharmonic Orchestra. For Segev, who commissioned and premiered the work last summer, the project marks a major career milestone.
Of her decision to pair Clyne’s new concerto with Elgar’s, Segev reflects, “It is so rewarding, to record and perform the work of a contemporary female composer whose music complements Elgar’s so well. The two pieces share a certain sensibility – a romanticism, warmth and humanity – that transcends any stylistic differences.”
