On November 22, Inbal Segev gave her debut performance with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, performing Timo Andres’ Upstate Obscura under the baton of conductor André de Ridder.

Co-curated by Andres, the program, named “American Perspectives,” included works by Charles Ives, Tania León, and Robin Holcomb, as well as traditional folk tunes, and Andres’ own Upstate Obscura. Originally premiered in 2018 by Segev and the Metropolis Ensemble at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the concerto is based on John Vanderlyn’s massive 2,000 square foot painting, “Panoramic View of the Palace and Gardens of Versailles,” which is on display in its own circular gallery at the Met’s American Wing.

The program featured the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra; Inbal Segev, cello; New-York based contemporary dance company, Dance Heginbotham; the Cincinnati Sacred Harp Singers; and Timo Andres, curator, composer, and pianist.
